No street lights and a clear view across to Tromsø: the aurora is photographed straight from the terrace, from the first of September to the end of March.
Tromsø sits inside the auroral oval, one of the most reliable places on earth to see the northern lights. A KP index of 1 is often enough.
The lodge has no street lighting and a clear view north across the strait to Tromsø. Most nights it is enough to step outside; on the clearest nights the display runs for hours.
The season runs from the first of September to the end of March, with the darkest, clearest skies from November to February.
